This is a bit of a departure for me, being neither funny or an original song.  But ever so often I like to take a side road just to put something out I think should be in the world. 🙂

I never liked this song.  But then I heard my friend, Kristin Korb’s jazz version and finally listened to the story in the lyrics for the first time.  It’s pretty dark.  A showgirl’s boyfriend gets killed by a mobster and she spends the next 30 years drinking herself to death as the world changes around her.

Damn…

So I thought it needed a darker arrangement.  I thought “What would a Murder Ballads-era Nick Cave do if he collaborated with Type O Negative on this?”

And that’s how my version of Copacabana was born.
